Gary Nagelhout

Elder

Gary Nagelhout has been a part of the Immanuel family since he moved with his wife Linda to the area in 1980. He has served for many of years as a Deacon or Elder, and has been involved in many of the ministries of the church. Gary worked for IBM for over 31 years and then retired and became a junior high and high school math teacher. He taught full time for five years at Faith Christian Academy; he now teaches part time at Faith Christian Academy, as an adjunct at Dutchess Community College, and as an adjunct for the Bard Prison Initiative in five Correctional Facilities. Gary & Linda have four children, three sons-in-law and two grandchildren.


Jay Butler

Elder

Jay Butler and his wife Judy have been part of the Immanuel family for over 13 years. As well as being an elder Jay is involved in many of the ministries of the church.. Jay worked for many years for Royal Carting as a truck driver and has retired recently. He is an Army Viet-Nam veteran and served with the  New York Air National Guard for 19 years. He is a member of the Hudson Valley Umpire Association and umpires baseball as an NYS baseball official in his spare time. He and his wife Judy have two daughters living at home and an older married son and one grand-son. He and Judy spend a lot of time home schooling their daughters and attending sporting events. Jay and Judy love music, singing, playing the guitar, and leading the Sunday morning praise team. Jay also leads the "Make a Joyful Noise" Sunday worship for early elementary children. .

Calvin Swart

Deacon/Treasurer

Cal Swart has been a part of the Immanuel family since he moved with his wife Trena to the area in 1983 when he joined IBM. He has served for many years as a Deacon and Treasurer, and has been involved in many of the ministries of the church. Cal worked for IBM for over 33 years as a software developer at the TJ Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY.  He retired in 2016, but continues to work part-time for IBM at the Research Center. Cal is also a US Air Force veteran. Cal likes to tinker with computers, software, and other electronic projects. Cal and Trena have four children, three daughters-in-law, 1 son-in-law and thirteen grandchildren.

Patty Ten

Deacon

Patty Ten is originally from Detroit Michigan and grew up in a family of 12 children. She came to New York to go to Pratt Institute for fine arts but also minored in Graphic Design. She met her husband Arnie who also graduated from Pratt in Illustration through common friends after he had graduated. They moved up to Poughkeepsie in the fall of 1987 with one son and soon had a second son. They have been at Immanuel since coming to the area..

Patty has served as a Coffee Break bible study leader and has taught story hour when her children were young. Lately she leads the Ladies Prayer and Share group and has been serving as a deacon for a third term. She has also been very involved with “The Park” ministry at Immanuel. 

Melissa Fischer

Deacon

Melissa has been involved with Immanuel since she and her husband, Stephen, moved to the area in 1987. She spent 17 years homeschooling their three children, and then became a dog trainer and also began to more seriously pursue her love of sketching and painting. Throughout those years Melissa served as a Coffee Break Bible study leader and also led small group Bible studies in their home. She is now retired from hands-on dog training and is focusing on art and writing and leads “Sketching as Prayer” retreats from time to time. Melissa and Stephen have three grown children, two wonderful daughters-in-law, a fabulous son-in-law, and seven delightful grandchildren.
