Stephen Fischer
Elder
Stephen Fischer has been part of Immanuel since 1988, when he and his wife Melissa moved to the area when he joined IBM. Stephen had served as an Elder for about 10 years previously, and has helped lead a small group for many years and led several short-term Dallas Willard book studies. Second to the Bible, Stephen has found Dallas Willard's writing to be the most personally helpful, but he has also benefited from Cloud and Townsend (Christian counseling) and others. Stephen has an eclectic church background, having been raised Lutheran, and having attended Baptist churches, charismatic churches, a Mennonite-influenced church, Bible churches, and finally an Evangelical Free church, before settling at Immanuel Christian Reformed church. In school, Stephen studied physics, electrical engineering, and computer science, and has enjoyed pursuing all of those interests during his 37-year (and counting) career at IBM and then at Globalfoundries. Stephen and Melissa have three children, all married, and 10 grandchildren. Their children are scattered all the way from Dallas, Texas to White River Junction, Vermont, so getting together with family often involves a lot of traveling..
